EXHIBITION ABSTRACT Sanctioned by the Fédération Internationale de l'Automobile, Formula One (F1) is a class of international racing featuring single-seat, open-wheel race cars on closed circuits or, less frequently, on closed public roads. An F1 season consists of a series of Grands Prix and uses a points system to determine both a Drivers’ and a Constructors’ World Championship. Although traditionally based in Europe, F1 is a global phenomenon, with Grands Prix taking place in countries from Monaco to Bahrain, Brazil, and Australia. The sport enjoys an avid fanbase—in the 2020 season, the average television viewership for each Grand Prix was 87.4 million—and it has grown into a multibillion-dollar industry, resulting in large investments from sponsors and creating a booming merchandising market.
