Jessie Owens was born in 1913.
He was an extraordinary African American athlete who excelled in 100m,200m,long jump and relay.
In 1935 he managed to set three world records within a space of an hour.
In 1936 Owens travelled to Berlin for the Olympics in Germany.
Hitler was in attendance and wanted to try and promote his racist theories.
Owens proved him wrong by winning the 100m,200m,long jump and gold in the 4×100 relay.
He was the first American track and field athlete to win four gold metals at a single Olympic games.
After the games it was rumoured that Hitler snubbed him by leaving the games early and never shock his hand.
